The Heritage
Founded in 1892 in New York City by the English master tailor Clarence Mortimer Almy and his son, James, C. M. Almy & Son, Inc. quickly established itself as a distinguished tailoring firm. The leadership baton passed to James's cousin, Donald Fendler, in 1929, who skillfully navigated the company through the tumultuous times of the Great Depression and World War II. Post-war, Donald’s sons, Thomas and Ryan, took the bold step of relocating the shop to Pittsfield, a central town in Maine. Their dedication and forward-thinking transformed Almy into a nationally recognized brand.
The next generation, Ryan’s sons Michael and Stephen, propelled Almy into the 21st century by embracing then-emerging technologies such as toll-free phone lines, credit card processing, and eventually, launching an e-commerce website. This strategic move was aimed at catering to the evolving needs of their clientele. Under their leadership, Almy's product range expanded, positioning the company as a comprehensive source for Church & Clergy essentials.
In July 2023, the F.C. Ziegler Co of Tulsa, OK, acquired the assets of the CM Almy Company. Since its inception in 1929 by Frank Charles Ziegler, F.C. Ziegler Co. has been owned and operated by his family and has earned a reputation as a prestigious name in Ecclesiastical Metalware. It stands as a full-service provider, offering a wide array of products for both public and private worship. The acquisition by F.C. Ziegler, a company with a parallel culture and heritage, ensures the continuation of CM Almy's esteemed traditions.
Despite the passage of time and the evolution of the company, the foundational mission and values instilled by Clarence Almy remain intact. The manufacturing facility remaining in Pittsfield, Maine, ensures our ability to craft vestments and furnishings that not only beautify worship spaces but also embody the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship, thereby ensuring their enduring value. Almy’s unparalleled customer service has consistently aimed to serve its clientele with the utmost respect, treating them as cherished, longtime friends.
